Meet your new gardening companion

We would like to introduce you to Chloe Thomson, the new editor and growing powerhouse behind ABC Organic Gardener!

Hello!

I’m Chloe, the new editor of ABC Organic Gardener. I have been working with the OG team for a while, but our next issue is out soon and it will be my first guiding the content and design so I wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

Gardening is my passion

I am a passionate gardener and have been lucky enough to pursue my love of gardening while working in the horticultural industry for the past 18 years.

But it all comes back to my garden, which isn’t just a patch of land – it’s my sanctuary, my happy place. I grow food, watch flowers bloom, catch up with family, or step out for a quick wander and return hours later with muddy hands and a big smile.

From hobby farm to urban garden

I grew up on a small hobby farm with vegie patches, chickens, horses and wide, open spaces. After studying agricultural science and horticulture, I’ve worked in everything from strawberry breeding to presenting gardening content on TV.

These days, I potter in my suburban garden in Melbourne’s outer north-east – a sloping, ever-changing quarter-acre I share with my husband and two boys. When we moved in, it was a jumble of empty beds and retaining walls. Now, it’s a garden that suits our lifestyle and draws us outside. Like many gardeners, I don’t think it will ever be “finished” – there’s always something new to plant, tweak, or dream up.

Rooted in purpose, but always growing – that’s how I see this magazine too.

Growing Organic Gardener together

I’m delighted to join forces with our new horticultural editor Steve Falcioni and a talented group of writers and photographers from around Australia.

Our goal is to keep the heart of Organic Gardener strong while introducing fresh ideas, diverse voices, and practical advice that reflects the way Australians garden today – and the way we hope to garden tomorrow. Expect hands-on how-tos, seasonal tips, and stories that celebrate sustainability, biodiversity, and resilience.

Whether you’re planting your first seed or tending a thriving backyard, I hope every issue will give you the knowledge you need to succeed in your garden, however big or small it may be.

I’d love to hear from you – share your garden stories and ideas via our social channels or email me at editor@organicgardener.com.au
