Pollinating zucchinis

Pollinating zucchinis

Story by

Wondering why your zucchinis won’t develop properly? The garden guru PHIL DUDMAN helps you solve this problem.Watch how to ensure that your flowers develop fruit, by pollinating them yourself.

In the Simple Seed Saving article on pages 83 – 85 of our November/December 2012 issue, Phil Dudman mentions that it is sometimes necessary to hand-pollinate vegetables to get productive crops. Among the plants that benefit from hand-pollination is zucchini. In this video, Phil explains how to do it.

As a bonus, says Phil… “don’t forget the flowers are GREAT to eat. Dip them in egg batter and fry them in olive oil. Or, pick fresh tiny zucchinis, mince them well, add bread crumbs, grated parmesan, egg, parsley salt and pepper (even some pine-nuts, too, if you like them), and then stuff the mixture into the flower heads, secure with a toothpick and fry in oil. All I can say is WOW – what a delight!”
