The jujube is a medium-sized tree that can get up to 7m in height, but can be pruned to a compact 2 x 2m.
Likes: A warm, sunny location; prefers sandy, well-drained soils; winter pruning keeps trees healthy.
Dislikes: Shade.
When to plant/sow in zone:
How to start: Purchase trees online and plant into fertilised soil. Trees will also grow in large pots, which also controls tendency for suckers to grow.
How to grow: Water regularly, especially when in fruit. Lightly fertilise during growing season.
When to harvest: Harvest in autumn. Fruit can be picked when green but the longer on tree, the sweeter. Fully mature fruit is red-brown.
