Local Harvest goes online

Avoiding supermarkets and buying local organic food has just become easier, thanks to a new website, Local Harvest.

Put together by the Ethical Consumer Group, which publishes guides and runs workshops on ethical consumption, the site features a directory of sustainable food in Australia, including food co-ops, swap meets, farmers’ markets, community gardens, organic retailers and box systems.

Type in your postcode and you’ll get a map showing all the ethical outlets in your neighbourhood.

There are also resources for growing your own food, inspiring stories from organic growers, and the chance to take part in the Local Harvest Challenge, in which for one week (April 1-7) participants will pledge to shop ethically and attempt to reduce the ‘degrees of separation’ from their food.
