Hit the road

The thought of setting up an organic business – or converting a conventional one to organics – can be intimidating. Where do you start?

Luckily, a program of organic roadshows and workshops is touring the country, offering advice for existing growers and anyone considering taking the plunge.

Certifying body Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA) is running the roadshows, which are one-day events featuring trade displays and presentations by expert speakers such as soil scientists, compost tea gurus and certification advisors.

Networking dinners run in conjunction with some of the roadshows. In addition there are certification workshops offering info on the certification process, and half-day value-adding workshops featuring talks and forums with organic food manufacturers, cosmetics processors and marketing specialists.

The shows kick off in Mildura on April 21 and conclude in November.
